Global Game Jam 2013 Entry: Follow Your Heart... Or Else

I've been gone for quite some while, but this was a good thing because I was attending the Global Game Jam 2012 game development competition!

After 48 hours, I believe the final product that was entered into the competition is awesome! I like to thank the other developers that was participating in the competition of the game: Thomas Kuharski, Rob Satness, and Gavin Folgert.

A screenshot of the said game is located below this:

The game is about a guy, whom the player plays as, named Gromun, who decides to write a love letter to his crush, but is unsure whether to deliver it or not. His heart decides to jump out of his chest (literally), then proceeds to deliver it by itself. Gromun then decides to follow his heart with the help of the player.

More stuff will be added onto the game in the future, so please check back time from time!

If you are interested in trying out the game for yourself, please Follow Your Heart (sorry for bad pun).

The game will also be located on the "Games" page.

Graduation

Just to let everyone know, I have graduated yesterday, so I will be unable to show progress for quite some while. Sorry about that.

Saving

I hereby announce that I have incorporated saving into the game, allowing the game to auto-save your data, whenever you make progress.

I have also made it where whenever you press new game for the first time, it will change to continue so when you go back to the main menu, you will be allowed to go back to the level you left from, starting from the starting arch or the checkpoint arch if you were able to make it that far.

The picture also shows that level select actually shows how many orbs and notes you were able to find during you travels. Please note (no pun intended) that there were actually only three orbs in my test level, but it definitely works, and once I get the person who is supposed to do level design, I'll be able to show you all it works. :)

More progress will be shown later, but I'm waiting for more models to come in so we can get some levels going, being able to integrated puzzles into this fine game. Maybe eventually getting a demo going if anyone is interested.

Glowy Spheres of Happiness

So there has been a quick update on Lost Facade. As the title states, I have added "Glowy Spheres of Happiness" aka orbs, which are items you can collect throughout your adventures in the deep unknown of Lost Facade.

Before I get into any further, here's a quick screenshot of the awesomeness.

Throughout the game, you will find these little buggers, which would unlock something special, but it's a secret. If you want to figure out what the secret is, you have to wait till the game is finished :P. Anyway, because of my bad photography skills, I "accidentally" took a shot with something behind it.

Since I'm so nice, I'll tell you it's an improved model of the arches I showed in the previous blog. Here's a couple of pictures reinstating how they are better.

Henceforth, I will be adding more of my progress, which I am currently doing. I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on what is happening here at Redev Games.

I'll be sure to get you a more elaborate update by tomorrow night, since I'll probably have some free-time.

P.S. I totally forgot I can full-screen the Unity game screen, so screenshots will obviously be easier to see now. Sorry about that.

Busy x3

Lately, I've been busy with work and other things, since I recently finished with school, graduating this 18th, I haven't made progress on the game, but I am actually currently working on some game-play since I now have usable placeholder models.

I can show you a little sneak peek.
...
...

...

I don't know what I'm looking at. Actually, I'm in the middle of implementing archways that are used in the game, such as the starting (blue), checkpoint (green), and finished (red) archways.

Of course, what you see here isn't what is going to be in the real game, since they are placeholders (obviously). I also implemented a feature where the player suffers an excruciating death after falling off the map (not really).  You just teleport (which apparently is not a word on here) back to either the starting arch or the checkpoint, depending on whether you decided to make friends with the pristine, infamous green archway of doom.

Nevertheless, I would like to apologize for the delay of this blog, and for the missing progress that should have been made if I wasn't so busy. I believe more will be shown next time.

Progress

I haven't made much progress on the game lately, but I was able to finish up with most of the GUI that is needed until we actually have a game to play. I was pretty much outside all day because of some errands I had to run, especially when they had to do with being able to visit the Philippines for the month later on this year. Right now, I'm installing 3ds Max 2013 so I can import models into Unity so we can get some game-play going.

Yes, my download speed is rather slow, but that's not the point.

I would love to create a test level so I can get everything else implemented into the game, such as collectibles, puzzles, etc.

I have also installed Autodesk Maya 2012 because everybody else had it. I couldn't even import files made in Maya 2012 since I had the 2010 version of it. I couldn't even import placeholders into Unity because of that. :(

So by tomorrow, I'll be getting some of the features implemented for some game-play using the placeholder models for now, so it should give me something to do while waiting for the real environmental models to be finished.

Lost Facade

Lately, I've been working on a pretty big game known as Lost Facade with other people that work for Redev Games. For this title, I'm the Lead Programmer. Any updates I make into the game will be posted. Speaking of which, I have a view screens to show to you that can show a bit of what I have been working on.

The title page ( please ignore the cube :P ) I'm gonna have something cooler there later. A later update will show how I'm going to turn this awesome cube into something heartwarming.

The level select of the game. It's scroll-able as you can tell. Right now, all I can tell you is that the game will have 15 levels, so that's still quite a lot of game-play.

The paused menu is going to be a book (something the player of the game will find). It will have three tabs which would include the main page, notes pages (a place where the player can read notes he finds throughout the game), as well as the options page, which would obviously allow players to change options.

As stated on this picture. My deduction was correct.

More pictures of updates will be posted soon, as long as I'm able to get more time into this. The team is hoping to get this done by late-February, so it shouldn't take too long. It's too early to predict how long this project is going to take though, but I'm pretty confident.

Reappearance of Jun

It has been a long time since I last blogged. The blog is now revamped and will have new content almost every week. I have finished school and is now currently working on games everyday and I will show progress since it is nice to see how I am progressing through game development. It is nice to be back.
